reasons for nasal revision surgery

━━━

When a revision surgery is deemed necessary, we thoroughly analyze the causes of the revision, including the presence of side effects, height, length, shape, skin thickness, and type of implants, to eliminate any factors that may lead to dissatisfaction and create a satisfying nasal appearance.

Causes and corrective methods for nasal revision surgery

Solution

nose surgery   ──────────    01

Nasal Deviation:

Correct the deviation by reconstructing the nasal tip cartilage and adjusting any excessively tied or twisted cartilage.

nose surgery   ──────────    02

Implant and Shape Deformity

Create space for the implant on the nasal bridge to ensure it is properly positioned. In cases of twisted nasal bones or the implant itself, replacement of the implant and correction of the twisted nose may be necessary simultaneously

Implant Displacement

Through revision surgery, reposition the implant accurately between the bone and periosteum to prevent further movement.

Skin Redness and Implant Visibility

Immediate revision surgery is needed to prevent skin perforation and necrosis. The nasal tip should be replaced with autologous tissue while reinforcing the skin thickness with artificial dermis or fascia.

Nostril Deformation

Reinforce the strength of the nasal tip cartilage and precisely reposition it to correct the size of the nostrils uniformly.

Collapse

Separate adhesion tissues, expand the skin, and accurately reposition the nasal tip cartilage to correct the saddle nose.

Nasal Revision Surgery Q&A

Q. Is revisional rhinoplasty really more difficult and challenging?

A. A: In general, revisional rhinoplasty involves readjusting the existing results, and there are many cases where revision is performed due to complications or side effects. Therefore, there are various factors that the surgeon needs to consider during the diagnosis. However, the difficulty of the surgery is inversely proportional to the skill of the surgeon. If you choose an experienced and skilled specialist, you don't need to worry excessively about the results. Additionally, revision surgery doesn't necessarily cause more pain or a longer recovery period than the initial surgery. But during the recovery process, patients should pay more attention to postoperative care and regular follow-ups compared to the first surgery.

Q. Why does saddle nose deformity (collapse) occur?

A.  When an implant is inserted into the body, a membrane forms around it, and this is a very natural process. However, if this membrane becomes excessively thick due to factors such as the individual's constitution, bacterial infection, or hematoma, it can cause the skin of the nose to retract and shrink, resulting in a collapsed appearance or deviation of the nose. The term "saddle nose deformity" commonly refers to this phenomenon. To address this issue, it is essential to seek treatment promptly after noticing any problems. Early intervention and proper management can significantly impact the outcome.

Q. Does the hump return after hump reduction rhinoplasty?

A.  In cases where the nasal bridge appeared smooth immediately after hump reduction rhinoplasty but later became convex and protruding, it is not that the hump has regrown. This is a result of postoperative swelling gradually subsiding, revealing the less resected portion of the nasal bridge. This can be improved through revision surgery by further reducing the residual hump.
